Dietz “Vesta” Gate Lantern Vintage-Style Advertisement Print – 16" × 20"
Bring a piece of classic American railroad and lantern manufacturing history to your collection with this 16" × 20" reproduction print featuring the Dietz “Vesta” Gate Lantern.
The artwork showcases the distinctive Dietz “Vesta” Railroad Hand Lantern, specially equipped with two 4-inch Corning Ruby Semaphore Lenses and a special bail for use as a railroad crossing gate lantern. The period-style advertisement explains how the ruby lenses were positioned to warn pedestrians and vehicles at grade crossings without interfering with signals visible to an approaching locomotive engineer.
Detailed advertising copy highlights the Vesta’s heavy-gauge steel wire bail, reinforced bail ears, heat-resisting globe, kerosene operation, and long-burning font. The advertisement also compares signal oil with kerosene and promotes the lantern’s durability and reliability for railroad service.
A dramatic illustration shows the ruby-red Vesta Gate Lantern mounted at a railroad grade crossing, reinforcing its original purpose as a warning signal. The lower portion prominently identifies the R. E. Dietz Company, founded in 1840, and promotes Dietz as one of the great names in American lantern manufacturing.
With its bold black, cream, silver, and deep ruby-red color scheme, detailed lantern artwork, railroad imagery, ornate period flourishes, and distressed antique appearance, this print makes a striking addition to a lantern collection, railroad collection, antique shop, train room, office, museum-style display, or home décor.
