Truly a beautiful civil war era lantern , many box type lanterns are out there and available, (most commonly seen is the star burst E.F. Parker) but this one features a unique diamond punched pattern , not commonly seen. ( first I've seen myself ). A swing out door to access a slide out fount . Burner is a single tube whale oil burner. It is not your common No.1 - 7/8 size , it is slightly undersized . Original red and clear glass panels are in excellent condition, beautiful red panels . I can't thinkof another use for Red glass being used at this time other than early Fire Department use. Condition - very good , no heavy rusting or pitting present. Bail shows very light signs or original jappanning. Inside fount area and bottom are excellent with bright tin. All the solder joints are tight , no broken spots. Overall a straight clean untouched lantern that is shelf ready. No visible condition issues. ** glass panels will be removed for shipping**
